“Lurra” means “earth, soil, ground..” in basque language. This collection reveals the micro-landscapes of my environment. Exploring the depths of my land, through the petrography of different places in Euskadi, I try to capture this existing reality and exalt the beauty that resides in the most modest appearances, such as the rocks have under their austere presence.
The exhibition includes canvases painted in mixed technique and intervened risographs on paper.
The paintings are a plastic interpretation of the petrographic samples, with creative freedom, adding to the surfaces the original materials and minerals from each place: marble dust, oxides, coal… On the other hand, the risographs are a reproduction of the original petrographs, modifying digitally the images and incorporating by hand golden watercolour (mica coated with metal oxide), turning the riso into a jewel-like riso.
The sample of soil that we step on is transferred to the exhibition wall, turning an element that we hardly notice into an object worthy of observation.
As a whole, “Lurra” invites us to contemplate the microcosm that surrounds us and to reflect on universal harmony, on the immensely large and the immensely small, on the ephemeral and the eternal and the repetition of internal structures at any scale of matter.
